I often get asked how the makeup should look for a boudoir photoshoot. What will look sexier? What will look better in the photos? Do I want to look like I always do or should I go for a look that’s out of my comfort zone? All very good questions and I feel they should be addressed with a blog post.
My general answer is always the same – it’s not always easy having your photos taken while being half naked but it’s certainly easier when confidence and inner beauty existss – that’s the real sexiness that transpires into the images. However, I do believe professional hair and makeup is important in the process. Unless you feel confident in your own skills – I would certainly suggest looking into a good makeup artist and a hairstylist to help transform your ideas into reality. Seeking professional help with makeup can also be a great part of the boudoir process – it is their job to see what your best features are and to accentuate them! Some are even willing to do a trial in advance – just to get that look perfected. A good hairstylist is equally important in creating a look you’re after. Whether it’s a simple taming of the tresses or going for a full hair transformation – a good hairstylist should be able to assist you. It’s obviously a matter of personal taste on whether you’re looking to create something minimalistic or something more dramatic for your makeup and hair – definitely do your research beforehand so you are confident in what looks you want for yourself. The web is always the most easily accessible and free – and I find Pinterest to be amazing for ideas! The planning and the actual photo session should be fun, stress free, and an experience you will treasure forever! It’s an investment you’ve made on yourself – so make it yours and make it worthwhile!
